PORTRAIT OF A SLAVE
1st Verse -The Master
Said the Slave to the Master:
Do I need to be all-brave?
To carve and shape my destiny?
When all my fortunes lead to a dark grave.
And all my children are to be slaves?
2nd Verse – The Master
Said the Master to his Slave:
Your gods are lifelessly wooden
And your men are but little fish,
With my bait, and my hook a swish
With my horse, shiny mirror in a nook
And also have I managed, with the Book
And the stick that thunders sound
To make you run faces aground
Have you not turned when I preach?
To spit at your fathers’ wreath?
Now with a cold coin and a gun
Did you not leave that loin?
3rd verse – The Slave
Said the Slave to his Master
Now I wish to say nothing but a thank you
Without you the rives were the only banks
Our gods are in the ground, yet yours is up
We tread on them,
Their faces choke on our dust
Indeed I need not to be brave,
And l’II come with you
And always be your slave
